So you’ve decided that you’re taking home an electric vehicle such as the new Chevy Bolt EV, but you open up the boot and discover that there isn’t a spare tire inside. What are you supposed to do when an accident happens while you’re driving around Maple Ridge? Well that is where you are in luck, because the Chevy Bolt EV comes standard with the Michelin® Energy® Saver A/S tires which are self-sealing tires, designed to patch issues while you’re driving. Find out more about the Chevy Bolt EV tires, and why they’re such a unique choice.
What are Michelin® Energy® Saver A/S Tires?
Electric Vehicles are already some of the most efficient and attractive cars on the road—that much is a given. But part of the reason why they’re so efficient is that they are exceptionally light, and make every effort to reduce excess weight. This is why you’ll rarely, if ever, find a spare tire in a Chevy Bolt or other EV. Instead, they will take advantage of the latest technology for Burnaby drivers. This comes in the form of the Michelin® Energy® Saver A/S tires, which offer number of benefits over conventional tires that might surprise you.
- Self Sealing: This biggest change that the Michelin® Energy® Saver A/S tire has over conventional tires is that there is a tar-like substance that lines the inside of the tire called the SafeSeal technology. Whenever there is a puncture in the tire, the goo moves into the cracks while you’re driving, and fills it in with a temporary patch. This allows you to drive up to 80 km without stopping, so you can make it into a service station for repairs.
- Extended Life: All tires experience wear and tear over time. However, due to the MaxTouch Construction™ available in the Michelin® Energy® Saver A/S tires, acceleration, braking, and corner are all more evenly distributed. This means that you’re going to see an increase of up to 25,000 km over competitor tires, meaning they can last up to 105,000 km.
- Improved Efficiency: The Michelin® Energy® Saver A/S tires come with EnergySaver Construction™, which combines with a special type of tread rubber and Silica-based tread compounds that reduces heat built up, for additional fuel efficiency even on standard tires.
- Improved Tire Performance: The same efficiency improving features also improve performance of the tire itself. This leads to a lower rolling resistance for less friction and road noise and improves stopping performance by 2.4 meters. These All Season tires can even be used in mud and snow for year-round performance.
If you find yourself in a situation where the SafeSeal technology isn’t able to handle the hole in your tires, you’ll find that every Chevy Bolt comes standard with a tire repair kit so that you can temporarily patch the hole long enough to get to a local service centre such as Go North Surrey GM.
