What Happens When the Silverado Enters 4-Cylinder Mode?

With cylinder deactivation, the engine control system can reduce the number of active cylinders when conditions allow. When Should the Silverado Be Inspected?
A single change in engine sound during cylinder deactivation isn’t necessarily a reason for concern. A repeated mechanical clunk, particularly one that is getting more noticeable or is accompanied by vibration, warning messages, reduced performance, fluid leakage or unusual transmission behaviour, is worth having inspected. A technician can check the engine and transmission mounts, drivetrain, transmission operation and the cylinder-deactivation system as appropriate for the specific Silverado configuration.
